Buyer Beware

Have you ever been scammed?  Have you ever been scammed before the holidays?  If you have answered YES to either one of these questions, I want your secret to showing "grace."

I could tell you all the details of my experience, but I will say this was a Christmas gift for my son, and although he is 18, this was the only thing he wanted for Christmas. As a parent, you will go to great lengths on Christmas morning to see your child smile with delight.  The scammer knew why I wanted this gift for him so badly and still took advantage of me.

You know, as a society, we are to blame for this behavior.  We have allowed people to hide behind computers, cell phones, technically of choice, and allowed them access into our lives.  We have trusted them, been scammed by them, carried on full-fledged conversations with them, without ever once knowing if the name they gave us was true or the face we see on an icon is their face or someone else's.  As humans, I believe we want to trust others, but we are taught "Danger Will Robinson, Danger."  On the flip side, I have to wonder how someone can live with themselves, knowing they are lying to you.  They know what they are telling you is a lie, yet they still find pleasure in feeding you the bait and watching you take it.  Have they been rejected so often that lying or cheating their way in life is the only way they can survive now?

My best friend told me, "put that BEEEEEPPPPP on blast and make sure that she is never heard from again".  I will make sure I report her to the right sites because I don't want anyone getting taken advantage of.  I did call my bank and report the issue, so hopefully, I'll get my money returned to me, but even after all that, I still sit here fuming because it's not about the money but the act of betrayal.  That someone thinks it's ok to manipulate another person and know they will get away with it.  No consequences, no questions asked.

I will continue to look for my son's gift, and if I don't get it for Christmas, he will get an IOU from Santa.  I will be more careful before being so trusting in the future.  That is my downfall.  I just assume people can be trusted, and I see the good in people.  The keyword here, "SEE," and need I say anymore.
