About Last Night...

I was sitting at home watching the Academy Awards with many of you, never thinking that Will Smith would make a complete ASS of himself.  I do not begrudge the man the opportunity to take up for his wife but come on, there is a time and place for everything.  His 5 minutes of fame was uncalled for and entirely out of line.  Let me explain why...

That ceremony, those awards, was not about Will Smith and Chris Rock.  That ceremony represents the countless hours those men and women took away from their families and devoted their careers to doing the best job.  In a 3 hour production, they were being recognized for their achievements.  Can anyone tell me what Chris Rock was presenting?  Can you even imagine the nominees or winners coming up to receive their awards after that show?  How they would follow that act?    Then to add salt to the wound, Will gives his acceptance speech without an ounce of remorse or apology for acting out but tells the audience he wants to be a "vessel of love" and do "God's work."  Now I don't know about you, but I think God would have a hard time understanding that.  Will Smith took away that moment and all the moments to follow because he wanted to prove a point.  For some of those people, that may be their only moment.  They may not ever get a chance to be at another Academy Award, and Will Smith felt it necessary to take all that away.

I admired this man.  I thought he and Jada Smith were the dream couple.  Solid in their relationship, faith, and family values.  Yes, we are all human but being a public figure comes with some responsibility.  I can tell you it's not slapping another human being in front of millions.  Or cursing him out after the mics have been turned off but making sure everyone knows what you are saying.

A real man would have handled it privately or apologized to those in the audience whose moment he ruined.  Not professing his devotion to his God while he slapped his fellow man.

As for Chris, he should filter what he says, but he handled himself well in an awkward situation.

To the hard-working actors, producers, directors, screenplay writers, costume designers, musical scores, etc., let me say I am sorry your moment was spoiled, and no one acknowledged that last night.
