Lifes Lesson at 15, OY!!!!!!
Well my son was suspended for the past 5 days from school. Yes I know shocking, for those who know my son personally, but not surprising given the current climate of our school systems and the stress placed on both students and teachers.
It used to be when I went school the most worrisome moment was if Ricky Epson would ever see me as his girlfriend or if my BFF, at that given class period, would be coming to a slumber party I had planned for the weekend. Now at 15 kids are concerned with college admissions, being athletic in all sports, peer pressure, and the homework, lord the homework. Then for the teachers and administrators that are educating our children they are shown very little appreciation and being under paid. Sad really because these kids are our future and we can't even pay the ones educating them much more then minimum wage. Thank goodness it is a passion for some teachers because it is definitely not the MONEY.
Well he returned to school today with a message from me that, "You'll need to prove yourself to those who matter in your educational career, i.e. your teachers and your coaches, however that is where it stops. Unfortunately some teachers and coaches will have a perceived view and their mind will be harder to convince, however don't kill yourself trying. You'll learn in this life not everyone is going to believe your change and you won't be able to change their minds. As for peers and friends if they knew your character before they'll stand by it now. Bottom line learn from this experience and keep moving forward."
I have to hand it to my son as far as I know, and I realize I don't know everything, he is a good kid. He doesn't conform to peer pressure and stands on his own merit. Maybe as a parent I don't get it all right but as long as I get him raised to be a respectful citizen and a kind human being then I have done my job. The rest will be in his and God's hands.
